FAQs
Is it normal for my heat pump to run for hours on a cold morning?
Yes. A heat pump delivers steady, moderate heat, and long run times on the coldest mornings are how it is designed to work. A house that loses temperature despite the running is the sign of a fault.
Why is there steam coming off my outdoor unit in winter?
That is the defrost cycle melting frost from the coil, and it is normal. Ice that never clears is the version that needs service.
How long do heat pumps last in the Triangle?
Ten to fifteen years is typical, with maintenance history setting the range. Because the system runs in both seasons, skipped maintenance shortens its life faster than it would on a furnace that rests all summer.
